Compassion Fatigue:

Building Resilience for Self Care

Presented by Gary U. Behrman

Goals/Learning Objectives:

This workshop presents an opportunity for participants to self-examine their strengths amidst the many changing demands that occur when serving those at the end of life. The model offered will describe moving from caregiving to partners in care as a means to build resilience.

Participants at this workshop will:

*Recognize our bio-psycho-social-spiritual needs as a care-giver
*Identify what it means to be healthy
*Understand the three types of stress
*Develop strategies to enhance capacity for resilience

Background of Speaker:

Gary U. Behrman has taught at SLU for the past 25 years and his research and publications focus on building resilience following trauma. Currently he is senior clinician at CHADS Coalition, serving adolescents at risk for suicide. He also teaches in SLU’s Schools of Public Health & Social Justice, Allied Health, and Medicine and at Aquinas Institute of Theology.
