Who Cares? April 2015 Workshop

Gateway Alliance for Compassionate Care at End of Life presented the spring workshop/luncheon:

“Who Cares? How to Initiate a Caring

Conversation about One’s Wishes at End of Life”

Presented By: Heather Bell, MSW, LCSW, ACHP-SW

Goals/ Learning Objectives:

Participants gained knowledge and understanding of:

    • reasons why it’s important to discuss end-of-life goals and wishes early,
    • several tools to help with the Caring Conversations about EOL wishes,
    • ways to ensure one’s EOL wishes are honored.

Background of Speaker:

Heather Bell is a social worker with BJC Hospice and Supportive Care. She received her B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from St. Ambrose University and her M.S.W. from Washington University, specializing in health and gerontology. Heather also has Advanced Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care. She is a member of multiple groups in St. Louis, including Social Work Leaders in Health Care of Metro St. Louis (for which she was President in 2013), Gateway Alliance for Compassionate Care at End of Life (she has been Secretary since 2012), Greater St. Louis Hospice Organization, Social Workers in Home Care, and Social Workers in Long Term Care. She has presented at the Missouri Hospice and Palliative Care Conference, regularly speaks in the community and throughout the BJC System on goals of care at end of life, and presents at an ongoing caregiver class.
